A dust explosion happens when suspended combustible dust ignites in closed spaces, spiking temperature and pressure. It requires five conditions: flammable dust, ignition sources, confined areas, oxidants and explosive dust concentration. Ignited dust spreads heat to surrounding particles for cyclic combustion, accelerating reaction speed exponentially and generating powerful blast waves with catastrophic damage.

In practical production, vessels and silos are interconnected via pipelines, pneumatic conveyors, dust collectors and exhaust ducts. When a dust explosion occurs, flames and pressure shockwaves travel through pipelines to other workshop equipment. Pre-compression of blast waves and flame jets intensify explosions in connected vessels, triggering successive secondary explosions that lead to severe catastrophic damage.

Explosion isolation systems fall into two categories: active and passive. Passive isolation devices activate directly upon explosion; their structural design blocks the propagation of flames and pressure waves. Active isolation systems are triggered by monitors or sensors that detect pressure spikes or flame signals, then initiate protective actions such as valve shut-off.

Flameless Explosion Venting Device

After installing the flameless explosion venting device, flames will be rapidly cooled and fully extinguished when passing through the wire mesh flame arrester, preventing any flame jet or pressure shockwave from escaping. Meanwhile, pressure surges and noise generated inside production facilities are minimized.

This flameless vent offers dust explosion protection for both indoor and outdoor installations. Custom sizes are available to match RAS/RA/RDS/RD series bursting discs. It features zero operating cost and simple installation.

 

DR Rupture Disc

Tovent DR rupture discs range from 150 to 910mm with carbon steel and stainless steel materials for St1-St3 combustible dust. Pass EN16009 flame test and Abaqus explosion simulation, customizable 0.01–0.1MPa burst pressure. Zero operating cost, instant pressure relief cuts explosion peak pressure. EPVS One-way Explosion Isolation Valve

It is a passive explosion isolation device that stays fully open under normal operating conditions. In the event of a dust explosion, reverse airflow generated by blast shockwaves forces the valve disc to close and maintain tight sealing for a sufficient duration to block flame propagation along pipelines.

Working Mechanism (DN100–DN1000)

Home Position:During standstill, the valve flap closes under its own dead weight and returns to the home position.Operating State.While the system is running, the isolation valve flap mounted on the suction side is held open by process airflow.

Explosion Occurrence:In the event of an explosion, the valve flap will be forced closed by pressure shockwaves propagating through the pipeline. It effectively blocks further explosion propagation. As a result, equipment and personnel on the suction pipeline side are fully protected from explosion hazards.

EPV Two-way Explosion-proof Isolation Valve

It is an explosion isolation device that uses the shock wave generated during an explosion to push a float ball, thereby blocking the flame and shock wave from the explosion. It is commonly used in conveying lines with explosion sources on both sides and at the clean air outlet side of dust collectors.
The valve can be controlled either with or without an external power source. Thanks to its low activation pressure and ease of maintenance, it offers simple and reliable explosion safety performance.

Explosion Suppression System

Explosion suppression systems detect pressure build-up during an explosion within mere milliseconds and discharge suppression agent into enclosed vessels before destructive blast pressure develops. The suppression medium interrupts explosion reactions by absorbing heat from the deflagration flame front, cooling the flame down below the minimum temperature required to sustain combustion. It also forms a barrier between combustible particles to block further heat transfer.An explosion suppression system consists of suppression agent canisters, control unit and pressure detectors.

Both pressure detectors and controllers are available in custom explosion-proof versions for Zone 21 and Zone 22 dust hazardous locations.

Working Mechanism

The explosion suppression system detects deflagration at its incipient stage and extinguishes explosion flames within milliseconds by discharging fire suppression powder.

A specialized nozzle system achieves optimal distribution of suppression powder inside pipelines and process equipment, realizing reliable safe isolation of explosion flames.

Spark Detection & Extinguishing System

Our spark suppression device eliminates risks of dust fire and explosion. It captures sparks and hot glowing particles via dedicated sensors, triggering the water extinguishing module to put out sparks before they flow into downstream dust collectors, silos and processing machines.
